A plain gold pocket watch by Breguet, made around the turn of the century for someone who didn’t need to be told the time in any louder way than this.
Abraham-Louis Breguet opened his workshop on the Quai de l’Horloge in Paris in 1775 and spent the next half century inventing much of what a watch still is: the tourbillon, the overcoil hairspring, a shock protection he called the parachute. Marie Antoinette and Napoleon were both clients. This watch was made some seventy-five years after his death, by the house that still carries his name.
White enamel dial, blued hands, a small seconds dial above six. The case back is plain and soft from a century of pockets.
